Veronica:

Welcome to the Veronica Edwards show, where we have fun financial conversations that everyone listening can apply to their personal and professional life. I'm your host, veronica Edwards, and this is the last show of 2023. So I always say I'm excited, but I'm a little sad too, because we're wrapping up the calendar year, but when we come back in January of 2024, we'll still be in season 3. So V Team definitely keep pushing forward with downloading shows during the break and we look forward to a new year, but today we had to end the year with a family edition, and it's the same person that I started 2023 with my amazing, handsome, very talented husband who's releasing his first extended play Christmas album this week called it's a Carlos Edwards Christmas.

Veronica:

Welcome, carlos.

Carlos :

Thank you. Thank you for having me.

Veronica:

Thank you for coming back.

Carlos :

Oh man, it's a, it's an honor.

Veronica:

Well, you've been here, you know, almost 12 months ago, and so much has happened during that time. I just want to do a quick little highlight. You know, we started off the year with my hysterectomy surgery, so that was definitely needed, scary, but went well. And then we transitioned into the summer, we went to Disney World and that was your first experience.

Carlos :

It was my first time going.

Veronica:

Going to Disney and it was amazing. I hope you enjoyed my planning for that. You know, listeners, I also consider myself a travel agent.

Carlos :

I mean, you know it worked out.

Veronica:

It was very nice. We were on the resort, we stayed for a couple of days, we had a buy made shirts, it was a thing, and then we had to a couple months after that. Then CJ, our eight year old, who's now a third grader. We had to switch schools with him. He tested ADHD I was going to say ADD and so we found an amazing learning center Thrive learning center that takes all of our money.

Carlos :

Yes, yes.

Veronica:

I have to thrive, to take all the cash, but it's worth every penny. And then, closing out the year, I'm going to be leaving my full-time job that I've been at for the last five years. While balancing, I know balance virtually, so I know you're happy that you won't have to deal with me being pulled in as many directions. But the coolest thing I want us to talk about today is that you are recording your first album ever.

Veronica:

And that's the reason I wanted to end out this holiday season. This will air on December 20th and hopefully the website and everything will be ready by that point. But we definitely will, because I'm Carlos's wife, raja I'm talking a little bit more about that. We definitely want to have to launch this Christmas EP before Christmas. So, carlos, please share with the listeners what made you want to record a Christmas EP versus other genres of music, because those that know Carlos knows he sings gospel in church. He sings R&B, that's his style of jazz. So tell us what was your inspiration.

Carlos :

Yes, I think honestly for me you know I've always enjoyed Christmas. Christmas has always been one of those times of the year that you know you just always look forward to, and I wanted to capture the joys of just holiday season Christmas family and friends and put it in a musical form, and so I chose, you know, four songs that you know I felt like encompassed that and you know I feel like it played out I mean really, really well. But yeah, overall though, I just feel really good and I feel great.

Veronica:

Wonderful. Well, for those that are listening that aren't familiar with an EP, it just stands for Extended Play, so that's usually a shorter album. Those albums usually have eight plus songs. With an EP it's usually like four to six songs. So we chose to go with four amazing songs. And, carlos, I don't know if you want to share which Christmas classics that you've recorded.

Carlos :

Yes, the songs that I have on the Christmas album I'll Be Home for Christmas, chestnut's, roastin, of course, give Love on Christmas Day and Winter Wonderland. And you know, I just felt like again, like those songs are just, you know, songs that were, you know, musical, that were joyful, that were like soulful songs, you know music to where you know you can play with, you know Auntie, you know Uncle, grandma, whoever you know, and not feel like, oh man, I gotta warn them about you know about this or that. So, yeah, man, those are the four songs, and you know, please feel free. You know, if you want to, you know possibly access them, you know, go to CarlosSewerscom and it will be on there for you.

Veronica:

Yeah. So for those that know me know that I consider myself an event planner, project manager, so of course it may sense for me to be Carlos's wife, a juror. You know mix of wife and manager. So we came about this probably like end of October. We were just talking about different passions. If you guys listen to one of my shows with Reverend Tamika Milton, my cousin, she's a passion pusher and we were talking about stepping into your passion. And when we had that conversation, that's when Carlos shared with me who's been singing ever since he's been seven years old. You know that he has always had the desire to do a Christmas album. So I immediately use some of the resources that I have through Balance, virtually where I reach out to Counterflow. Shout out to Dan Piso and Ben Fawn I hope I'm not butchering your last name that they're helping us with the videography. We're going to be doing some videos. We're launching a website. They gave us some ideas.

Carlos :

Thank you, guys.

Veronica:

Yes, for other things. Andre, our friend who does photography, have to shout him out. He's also a friend to the show. So all these things. Our son goes to the music academy, or Asheville Music Academy and he was the person, Mr James, that recommended the studio that we use. So, carlos, I don't know if you want to shout out Phil and the studio that you use, because the musicians when you guys hear this album. Oh my gosh, this all came via Phil, so if you could share a little bit about your studio experience.

Carlos :

Yeah, man, shout out to Phil.

Carlos :

Phil Ludwig is just amazing to me, you know person, musician, I mean an awesome guy, and he has an awesome place to record music.

Carlos :

Seclusion is, you know, just has an awesome environment to just lay down tracks and you know, while I was in there he was able to, you know, actually, you know, reach out to friends of his that he's done, you know, music with, I mean, for years, and he was able to just, you know, ask them upfront like hey, like I need, you know, I need you on, you know drums and you know this guy here, you know bass, I need, you know, multiple people to just come in and just help. And you know he was able to just pull and just access people from all walks of of just life within, I guess, western North Carolina, which now, like I'm kind of learning, is more and more of a musical gem in not only the, the whole state, but really the whole like Southeast. You know, I feel like there's so many talented, I mean musicians up here that just do like awesome things. You know Phil is most definitely one of them. So shout out to him, you know he's just helpful, great dude. And I mean, again, prices were.

Carlos :

I was just gonna say you know it wasn't, it wasn't breaking the pocket, you know, because you know people don't realize when you want to take a independent route, you know shout out to. You know so many Entrepreneurs you know out there so many. You know bosses out there, people that are you don't make moves, that are, you know, Trying to actually, you know, make money and do things off of their own talent and skill. I mean it can be a Very, a very pricey endeavor overall when you want to try to, like you know, record music and Try to lay down tracks and try to pay for videos and pay for you know this and marketing.

Veronica:

I know that.

Carlos :

So you know, praise God that you know getting shots, and not only them but to my wife at your For really for really like laying things out. You know, in a way that you know it was Affordable for us and it was manageable for us for us to take this whole route. So having a full website, music, all of that you know. So you know, shout out to you know her too, oh.

Veronica:

Well, thank you my own horn, but yes, I did. Have to put this together in about six weeks has been extremely stressful, but thank you to all of those that have helped us. So cool, oh, you know, I Definitely. I know you mentioned seclusion, but for those that know seclusion studios, which we're not about to give up, phil's address, it is a home studio but it's right.

Veronica:

It's amazing, and I just wanted to piggyback off what you said, carlos, for those that are listening. This shows a family edition, but this is also a business piece to it too, because yes.

Veronica:

What we're ultimately trying to do. We first start out with oh, we've always wanted to do a Christmas album, let's do it. So it gave us time to figure out, okay. Well, what's the best studio, what musicians should be used, how long does it take, what's the cost for these things? And now, if it's okay for me to share Carlos, you know, with you going into 2024, we're also working on a press kit, which is basically going to be a medley of different songs that Carlos records that Really features his amazing voice. We will do that with a band that he typically performs with at church. Shout out to Danny Collins, our music Director. Again, shout out to Danny. And so that's gonna be happening in January. So then Carlos can work with the talent agency and get booked at Grove Park and built more things like that. So again, for those that are listening and you're like, oh gosh, I have these other talents and things I want to do, just invest in yourself and we're not spending a lot of money we're doing the bare minimum, but we're doing it.

Carlos :

We're not breaking the pocket man. And you know, I just feel like a lot of times, you know, fear kind of like steps in and you know you kind of almost feel like, okay, I want to make like that next step, I want to do like that next thing, but I don't know what I should do first, or I Don't know if this will work out or that will. But I feel like a lot of times you just got to take like that whole leap of faith and just take like that first step and then take the next step, and then take the next step and next thing, you know, you know you're, you know recording live, you know.

Carlos :

Radio show talking about a Christmas EP that you drop. You know I'm saying so, I mean, I Mean it just boils down to really just having faith, you know, and you, and just acting on it, you know, and not, and not letting, and not letting fear, you know, hold you back.

Veronica:

I totally agree because you know we always talk about different tips and jewels for the listeners and because this is totally out of the realm of what your degree is in. For those that haven't listened to prior shows, it doesn't know, carlos, he's a degree middle school teacher in history and social studies. And Sorry Again, sorry, divo, I just wanted to make sure I get that right.

Carlos :

I mean, look this is one of the few times in life that I ever can correct Veronica, because she's so Amazing that it's like Clean it up. You know, 80 little moment I get. You know, it's really really, really, really really good.

Veronica:

But yeah, but I'm glad that you're sharing that, because I feel like I'm an accountant, you're a teacher, we are very much kind of stuck in our ways and our routine and we talked about before with you being so supportive of me with my business and balance. Virtually. I just wanted to return favor and be able to assist you because I, you know. I just want you to say you know, that's why I sell my five.

Carlos :

I just want you to be in the business.

Veronica:

Let me do that counting. So I just wanted to help you know, facilitate everything for you and thank you for allowing me to do that. So those that are listening, that's something you have to do too, because it is part of you know what?

Carlos :

Comments feel good.

Veronica:

So Carlos, why don't you share how has that experience been having your wife manage you and, in this case, you?

Carlos :

have to say yes.

Carlos :

Like it's been, it has been fun, like I can truly say that because a lot of times the thing that I love like about us is that you know we can openly talk, you know what I'm saying, and we can have moments where there be within sarcasm, within like seriousness, to where you know what I mean. It's good and like having you as a manager. You know, yeah, like there's been times where, of course, you know managers, if you want to do your job well, right, you gotta make sure you gotta kind of crack the whip and like a lot of times you know-.

Veronica:

Well, let's say hold people accountable.

Carlos :

You know. You know I mean this is no, no, no, okay, my bad, my bad, oops, I mean, hold people accountable to the plans that you know that have been laying out. But no, I mean it's been cool though, man, because, you know, again, I feel like we have both been able to kind of give like really good feedback into the vision, into what like we want to like. Do you know and yes, that's what you know. I really like about it again, because a lot of times, you know, I feel like a lot of people feel like, oh man, I can't, you know, do this with my wife or do that with my, you know, husband or spouse, or me.

Carlos :

But you know, a lot of times, yeah, you know, if you wanted to really work, I feel like you have to let each other in you know what I'm saying let them, you know, do their part and, like you know, for you, I feel like, yeah, that is a very strong point of yours, to where you know you are a very good planner, a go-getter, and so, you know, it's one of those things to where it's good. You need qualities like that to be a good manager, and then, of course, you have to have, you know a supremely talented you know, you know person that's your as your client. You know what I'm saying. But again, you know, nah, I mean it's been fun though man.

Carlos :

It's been good because, honestly, we are seeing success, we are getting things done and we are accomplishing goals, and for that I gotta say thank you, because you know everything that we said that we would do with this whole you know, ep and with just like transitioning in terms of I mean your whole business. You know, moving, doing this, doing that. We've like accomplished it. You know what I'm saying, and so you know it feels good.

Veronica:

Yes, teamwork definitely makes the dream work. So, just like that. Carlos works at the end of the show. So again I would just wanna plug to listeners CarlosEdwardscom. Hopefully when this show airs season 20th, the pressure's on me.

Carlos :

I know the pressure's on man. Hopefully it'll be posted really soon, right?

Veronica:

Yes, but definitely before Christmas. So definitely, carlos-.

Carlos :

It's a CarlosSeptic's Christmas.

Veronica:

Veronica:

Veronica:

Yes, please.

Carlos :

Okay, okay, okay.

Veronica:

Carlos :

I'm not going to give him too much.

Veronica:
