On the season four opener of the Veronica Edwards Show, I share the highs and lows of my journey with Balance Virtually over the past year. This episode is packed with insights into why it's crucial to align clients with our virtual model and the tough calls I've made to avoid certain clientele like churches and schools. Plus, we're kicking off our new focus on young entrepreneurs and community advocates. Get ready to be inspired by her story and learn how she’s making waves in the art world.

But that's not all! This season, I'm inviting the V Team to be more involved than ever. Veronica:

Welcome to the Veronica Edwards show, where we have fun financial conversations that everyone listening can apply to their personal and professional life. I'm your host, veronica Edwards, so excited and blessed to be back after summer break to kick off season four of the Veronica Edwards show. I can't believe it's already been four seasons and almost three years that I've been blessed to have this show. I want to thank the V Team. Those are the listeners that have been downloading the podcast. We were really pushing last season to hit 4,000 downloads and not only do we hit 4,000, we're getting closer to 4,500. So the goal of 5,000 downloads, which is just an extra thousand in season five, is definitely doable. So thank you guys. So much so to kick off season four, I'm doing a opener monologue. So this show is going to be airing the first week of September and when I tell you I'm so ready for 2025, it's definitely been a rewarding year, but it's been a challenging year. I don't know if you guys listened to my beginning of the year and mid-year monologue where I shared on the business side. This is my first year, even though Balance, virtually, is six years old. This is the first year I'm 100% in the business. This is my first year, even though balance virtually is six years old. This is the first year I'm 100% in the business, that I'm not getting significant income from anywhere outside of my clients. So it definitely has been a learning experience. But I definitely want business owners listening to know your business will continue to evolve, just like yourself, just like a relationship. So don't be afraid to let some clients go to get new clients, to completely take a look back and figure out, okay, what worked, what didn't work, and that's basically what I've been doing this year.

Veronica:

The summer was very slow in a good way. I was intentional in not wanting to add new clients, but I also lost some clients and it gave me time to figure out well, what do I want to do? Over the last two years I've been heavy in small minority businesses, specifically nonprofits, and it gave me a wealth of experience and knowledge. But I have learned that I tend to more like to help those businesses in the startup phase and then transition them off to an accounting firm that can work with them on a month-to-month basis. I'm definitely finding that I am truly virtually based. Balance Virtually is a virtual company and that's hard when you're supporting small nonprofits and they need your assistance, they need to touch and feel you and they need you physically in the office. I also learned that I don't want to do churches and I don't want to do schools. It's very hands-on A lot of times. Those institutions have been around for a while, so they want to write checks and they don't necessarily want to do things online and that is totally OK. But I'm learning in this phase in my business that I need to say no, because I tried it, it didn't work and for me I need to be mobile, I need to be flexible. I have a young child, I have older family members that live out of town, so for me it was great kind of shedding this year and it's exciting going into the rest of the year, in 2025, because I have a more clear scope on what I want to focus on. Veronica:

And then, as for the Veronica Edwards show for season four, I'm definitely going to be focusing on having more young entrepreneurs and community advocates locally in the Carolinas. This was a great suggestion from the number one VT member, my mom, dorothy Vaughn, and she's absolutely right. The children and the youth are our future and I definitely want to highlight that it does not matter if you are under 18 years old. You are still capable of being an entrepreneur. You're capable of being a community advocate. I almost argue that you have more of an influence when you're younger. It's something about seeing young people be excited about something that's positive and helping the community and creating generational wealth. How do you not get goosebumps even thinking about it? So one of these young people that I have in mind, that I've been talking about in my mind of her being on the show for almost a year we just have to get our schedules to line up is Ayanna Joyner. She is a family friend. Both of her entrepreneur parents have been on the show season three Deidre and Lamar Joyner. Ms Deidre Joyner is a therapist and Mr Lamar Joyner is a serial entrepreneur. He's a realtor and he focuses on those in the military, also relocating in the low country area. He's a DJ, he's an announcer, he's an IT person. He's all the things. Very special, special, family. So definitely want to have young people like Ayana, who's more into the arts. She's amazing, can do anything when it comes to hair, amazing dancer, just an amazing young person. So I would love to have her on if her schedule allows.

Veronica:

I'm also going to be finalizing the third part in a three-part series of the firearm safety series I've been doing with Biz Radio's own producer and firearm safety expert, mr Aaron Matan. So, if you guys recall, if you go back to part one and part two, aaron came over to my house and he provided about three hours of firearm safety with myself and my husband, carlos. If you go on social media you'll see Carlos shooting an AR-15. Aaron was nice enough to bring a couple of his pistols to the house. No ammunition, because we learning about dry drills, which is so key, just like we have fire drills and we have tornado drills. We need to have drills if something was to happen when you do own a firearm.

Veronica:

And the second part that we did was that we actually went to the shooting range and I don't want to misquote it, but I believe it is the Wildlife Commission out in Canton, close by Logan Park. I believe it is. And it's amazing. Now that I've had my first experience shooting a gun outside, I don't think I ever want to go to a shooting range that's inside. It felt super safe. Everybody was so kind, me and my husband's going out in the middle of nowhere and we're very melanin and nobody was giving us a side eye. Everybody was very nice. Everybody was very welcoming. It was an amazing experience. It's even motivated my 76-year-old aunt to want to go back to the shooting range. I totally forgot that my aunt, working for the subway system for over 20 years, carried, I believe, a .45. So she's ready to get back. You know, working on her shooting skills, which it's never too late to go back to the shooting range. So again, those that are firearm holders or part of the gun community, the gun culture, don't forget you have to practice, so make sure that you're going out to the shooting

Veronica:

range. I also want to shout out Miss Brandy Mills. She came on the show the end of season three. We're going to have her back. She is the owner of Brandy Mills Consulting and the author of Woman you Are Strong, a 21-day face it so you can fix it journey. I've personally gone through this journey where every day there's different topics, such as disappointment, overwhelm, self-doubt, and it forces you to kind of list well, when does this happen and how does it make you feel and what can you do to make sure that you can overcome this and it's such a powerful movement that she has going on. So I definitely want to have her back on for season four because she has a Woman Strong Empowerment Summit that's going to be happening at AB Tech here in Asheville September 20th. So please support her. Go to brandymillsconsultingcom. She'll definitely be on, I'm hoping, before her summit, so she can promote that and all the great things that she's doing in this area and

Veronica:

beyond. And on a personal note, before we go, I definitely want to talk about how much I've been focusing more on my health and my wellness, and also my husband. In recent, carlos lost 20 pounds. Well, actually, yeah, 20 pounds. My mom has lost 20 pounds and, as we know, 80% of your health and wellness is what you eat, and so we've been exercising and we've been healthy, but for whatever reason, it was like, okay, the scales keep going up and down, up and down. Well, we definitely started to dial in and we realized, like everybody talks about, the older you get the devil sugar. Sugar was the biggest thing that was causing issues in our diet if it was in the form of alcohol, juices, carbs. So we really are focusing more on whole foods. We already eat pretty plant-based and dairy-free, but it didn't matter if we were just focusing so much on these heavy carbs and sugars and things of that sort. So I definitely feel like I'm in the best shape that I've ever been in being 42 years old, and I think it's the same for my husband and my mom, who is 69 years young. So I just want to encourage everyone listening to go back to some of the prior Eat, sleep, move your Feet wellness episodes we have with Miss Jade Williams. I'm also wanting to have her back in September for season four to continue to encourage folks about how important your health and wellness is. You know, being 42, I'm reading more and more about how we still have time to change the outlook for

Veronica:

ourselves. Things that you can do that can reduce your chances of cancer, reduce your chances of dementia, increasing your strength. So if you do fall, you have strong bones and muscles things that when I was younger I was like I don't want to bulk up, I don't want to do these things. But okay, if you bulk up, then just pull back a little bit. But I definitely encourage you just to get some five pounds or some eight pound dumbbells, or you can get some two or three pound weights around your ankles and you can just do things around the house. You can squat when you go in the bathroom, when you're vacuuming, when you're sweeping. You can do plank holds, you can act like you're sitting in a chair against the wall. It's so many simple things that you can do, but, most importantly, really pay attention to what you're actually fueling your body with, and try to drink as much water and veggies and all that stuff first before you eat some of the things that you like. You can still eat those things, but it's all about

Veronica:

moderation. So that's my kickoff for season

Veronica:

four. I definitely want to invite the V team to send me a DM on Facebook or Instagram or email me via my website,

Veronica:

balancevirtuallycom. If you want to be a guest on season four, if you know of any good guests, if there's any topics that you're like, we want you to discuss this during the CPA chat or during Eat, sleep, move your Feet our health and wellness segment. I would love for your feedback because without the V Team, without you guys listening, I would not be here for season four. So I'm really, really, really excited to continue to meet amazing people in the greater Asheville area and beyond that I can feature on the show.
